Summary mutagenic background is determined for ground, surface and waste waters of
Moldova territory . Ames’ test is the method of investigation. For water testing Salmonella
typhimurium ТА98 и ТА100 strain were used. Maximum mutagenity activity is detected for Prut River and small rivers inside of the country. This is connected with general chemical and bacteriological pollution of surface water.
