Grigore Vieru is the poet who has rehabilitated ethics and aesthetics in Moldova’s postwar literature and has contributed to defining the identity of Basarabians, to reconstitute the framework of national values. With ingenious poetical techniques, the poet managed tracking the Romanian values in a Soviet context that was hostile and ideological to the maximum. The poet has confirmed the idea that great artists can overcame any political power. Grigore Vieru became the symbol of national awakening, of the return of the truth to its natural course.

Grigore Vieru este poetul care a reabilitat eticul şi esteticul în literatura postbelică din Republica Moldova şi a contribuit substanţial la definirea identitară a basarabenilor, la reconstituirea cadrului de valori naţionale. Prin tehnici poetice ingenioase, poetul a reuşit reperarea valorilor româneşti într-un context sovietic ostil şi ideologizat la maximum. Poetul a confirmat ideea că marii artişti pot înfrunta o putere politică. Grigore Vieru a devenit un simbol naţional al redeşteptării naţionale, al revenirii adevărului istoric în albia lui firească.
