There have always been issues associated with people abusing drugs, alcohol, and other substances both legal and illegal. Nowadays, there is one more issue influencing the society which is a rather high level of technological advancement. Because of it, the game development industry became one of the most popular industries in the world people from all over the world are playing video games on a daily basis and these experiences lead them to exploiting their personal time in favor of videogames. Within the framework of this paper, the author tries to outline the key issues associated with videogame addiction while reviewing the evidence on the subject from both the Russian and American researchers. The three critical spheres of influence associated with videogame addiction are the inability to control the time spent playing, improper prioritization of daily tasks, and the inability to give up on gaming even when the person’s health (both physical and mental) is in danger. This literature review shows that videogame addiction is a serious issue and Moldavian psychologists should address the disorder in order to prevent its critical influence on the society in terms of the deteriorating levels of academic and professional performance. |
