Cine a urmărit dezvoltarea poeziei moderne și cunoaște, tot odată, destul de bine poezia veche, poate sesiza marea deosebire dintre acestea două. La o analiză mai detaliată se constată schimbări radicale în modul de exprimare, în structura frazei, în dispoziția generală, în imaginile utilizate, ba chiar și în materia artei. Poezia românească a trăit și trăiește în mod firesc cu sentimentul valorii și al virtuții proprii, cu intuiția sigură a unui aport substanțial și plin de originalitate. Odată trecute momentele dificile, lirica românească și-a redescoperit rosturile specifice, însă într-un context social și istoric nou. Poezia simbolistă este exclusiv o poezie a sensibilității pure. Obiectul ei îl constituie stările sufletești nelămurite, confuze, care, neputând fi formulate clar, nu vor putea fi transmise decât pe calea sugestiei.

Those who followed the development of the modern poetry and are rather well familiarised with the old poetry are able to perceive the great difference between them. While making a more detailed analysis there are stated radical changes in the mode of expression, in the structure of the sentence, as well as regarding the general mood, in the used images and even in the art domain. The romanian poetry has always lived and has been naturally living with the sentiment of the value and of its own virtue, with the sure intuition of its substantial and full of originality contribution. Once the difficult moments have been overcome, the romanian lyric has redescovered its specific functions, however in a new social and historical context. The symbolist poetry is exclussively a poetry of a pure sensibility. It concerns the unexplained, confused soul feelings, that can not be exactly expressed, so they will not be rendered but by means of suggestion.
