An important role in the selection process and the implementation of new hybrids of corn goes to test them objectively. According to the scheme of the Institute of Field Crops "Porumbeni" the testing of new corn hybrids is accomplished by the Testing Laboratory . Hybrids and their parental forms, received from the breeding laboratories are tested for VCU (Value for Cultivation and Use) and DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, Stability). Laboratory data serve as a basis for including of new hybrids in the official trials. In the end, VCU test serves as the basis for the admission of the new hybrid in production, and the test DUS for the grant of its legal protection. |
