She studied at the primary school from Congaz village, district Cahul, at the Eparchial School for Girls of Chisinau, and at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Iasi. She was actively involved in the Bessarabian national liberation movement in 1917-1918. Elena Alistar founded Women’s Cultural League in Bessarabia and became its representative in Country Council. She voted for the Union of Bessarabia with Romania on March 27th 1918. During the interwar period she was the director of the Eparchial School of Girls of Chisinau, contributing to the transforming of this educational institution into an elite school. After June 28, 1940, she took refuge in Romania, living for a period in Iasi, then being sent by the communist regime in Pucioasa, Dâmboviţa district. She died in 1955. Elena Alistar wrote Amintriri din anii 1917/1918, which was published in magazine Patrimoniu no. 3, 1991 by dr. Ion Ţurcanu. The material is an important primary historical source that can be used in the process of studying the history of Romanians in secondary schools and high schools.
