This article is devoted to the role of motivation in the process of the English language teaching. The author makes her theoretical research with the help of different conceptions connected to motivation from linguistic and psycho-linguistic viewpoints, presenting in details the theory of Alan McLean, confronting it with the opinions of other important scholars and at the same time expressing her own point of view.

Prezentul articol este consacrat rolului motivaţiei în procesul de predare a limbii engleze. Autorul face o incursiune teoretică prezentând diferite concepţii cu privire la motivaţia din perspectivă lingvistică şi psiholingvistică, propune un studiu detaliat al postulatelor lui Alan McLean confruntându-le cu teoriile altor lingvişti renumiţi, dar expunâdu- şi şi propriul punct de vedere.
