This work was conceived as a direct continuation of the General Catalog «Book of Moldova» (XVII – the beginning of XX centuries), which was published in two volumes in Chisinau in 1990 and 1992: Book of Moldova: Vol. 1: Old editions. (XVII – the beginning of XIX centuries), Chisinau, 1990, 250 p.; Book of Moldova: Vol. 2: Editions published in Cyrillic (XIX – the beginning of XX centuries), Chisinau, 1992, 263 p., which includes modern heritage books from XIX – the beginning of XX centuries. The size and the format of the work are an eloquent proof of the prodigious efforts put in by the authors. The physical capacity of the volume is very conclusive, the amount of information being tenfold compared to the first two volumes. The General Catalog «Book of Moldova» is one of the historical achievements of Bessarabia, and the result of the successful collaboration between the National Library of Moldova and the National Archive, large libraries and museums in Moldova, that are participating in the development and implementation of the National Programme «Memory of Moldova», initiated and coordinated by the NLRM.
