The “American Dream” is a social concept that anyone, no matter what race or social class he/she belongs to, can improve his/her standard of living and become rich thanks to hard work of entrepreneurial skills. The concept was used for the first time by James Truslow Adams in his book “The Epic of America” written in 1931. He stated “we dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement”. The notion of the American Dream is of great interest in literary groups. It has been investigated and analyzed actively in several approaches since it is considered to be a broad and complete phenomenon participating in building of the American nation and playing an important role in social life. The article is not only the analysis of creative works, but it is also an exploration of the concept “American Dream” and at the same time an attempt to find a relation between the “American Dream” and the “American Tragedy” |
