The “American Dream” is a social concept that anyone, no matter what race or social class he/she belongs to, can improve his/her standard of living and become rich thanks to hard work of entrepreneurial skills. The concept was used for the first time by James Truslow Adams in his book “The Epic of America” written in 1931. He stated “we dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement”. The notion of the American Dream is of great interest in literary groups. It has been investigated and analyzed actively in several approaches since it is considered to be a broad and complete phenomenon participating in building of the American nation and playing an important role in social life. The article is not only the analysis of creative works, but it is also an exploration of the concept “American Dream” and at the same time an attempt to find a relation between the “American Dream” and the “American Tragedy”

Le « Rêve Américain » est un concept social que n'importe qui, peu importe la race ou la classe sociale d'appartenance, peut améliorer son niveau de vie et devenir riche grâce au travail acharné et aux compétences entrepreneuriales. Le concept a été utilisé pour la première fois par James Truslow Adams dans son livre « L'Épopée de l'Amérique », écrit en 1931. Il a déclaré « nous rêvons d'une terre où la vie devrait être meilleure, e plus riche et plus complète pour chaque homme, selon ses capacités et ses résultats ». La notion de « Rêve Américain » présente un grand intérêt pour les groupes littéraire. Ce large et complet phénomène qui vise le développement de la nation américaine, été étudié et analysé par beaucoup de chercheurs, pour le fait qu’il joue un rôle important dans la vie sociale. Cet article n'est pas seulement une analyse des oeuvres littéraires, mais aussi une exploration de la notion de « Rêve Américain » et en même temps une tentative de trouver une relation entre le « Rêve Américain » et la « Tragédie Américaine ».
