The article is devoted to a topical but poorly studied theme in modern historical science – the role of German colonists in economy and cultural life of the Bessarabia. The author presents this theme on the basis of the temporary exhibition that was inaugurated in the showroom of the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova. Thanks to the good relations istablished between the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova and the Moldova Institute Leipzig, the two institutions with the assistance of the German Embassy in Moldova and other institutions have organized at the end of 2010 a great exhibition dedicated to the German colonists in Bessarabia for the period from the 19th century to 1940. The exhibition entitled “Pious and Hardworking People“consists of two parts and more than 150 items namely photographs, documents, medals and personal objects. The purpose of this exhibition was to show to the public one of the most important pages of history of Bessarabia - the German colonists, their life in the foreign country, occupations and traditions, their contribution to the development of the Bessarabia and promote cultural relations between German and Republic of Moldova.
