Signed on the night of August 24, 1939, in the presence of Stalin, it seemed, at first glance, through its part made public, a non-aggression treaty specific to the time and situation. Accompanied by a secret Additional Protocol, by which Germany and the USSR delimit the spheres of influence in Europe, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, i.e. Finland, Poland, the Baltic States, these documents decisively affected the situation in Europe, from the East, creating a problem of unprecedented gravity for Romania. For the Pruto-Dniester territory, the consequences of the Pact led to the military operations of the USSR from June 28 to July 3, 1940, as well as to the annexation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina to the Soviet Union |
