Studiu reprezintă o incursiune asupra unor aspecte teoretice ale traducerii operei lui James Joyce din perspectiva traductologică și comparatistă. Sunt luate în discuție aspectele receptării textului literar la nivelul traducerilor literare, prin actualizare principalelor directii în domeniu începând cu mijlocul secolulul al XX-lea. Sunt enumerați factorii ce afectează traducerea și receptarea unui text literar într-o altă cultură. Deasemenea sunt enumerate și condițiile de conjunctură a traducerilor literare din România postbelică care au afectat modilitățile de traducere ale operelor lui Joyce pe paginile reviste Secolul XX. Studiu semnaleaza prezența unor inexatități de ordin stilistic și semantic, și procedeele de evitare ale acestora în traducerile care au fost facute mai târziu după Revoluția din 1989.

This study represents an overview of the theoretical aspects of the literary translation of the works of James Joyce from a comparative and translation theory perspective. The research takes into discussion the major aspects of the reception of a literary text at the level of literary translation through the actualization of the main tendencies in this field beginning with the middle of the 20th century. A list of factors are given which affect the translation and the reception of a literary text in a different culture, together with the distinguishing of the conjuncture conditions of the literary translations in postwar Romania which challenged the process of the translation of the novels of James Joyce on the pages of the magazine Secolul XX. The study records the presence of numerous stylistic and semantic inexact translations and the devices using in their overcoming used by the translators after the Revolution in 1989.
