Rezumat

The article is focused on the analysis of social activism in the Republic of Moldova and its characteristics. Based on sociological research, the author established two distinct groups of respondents. The first group constitutes 14% of the population and is characterized by a high level of civic activism: actively participates in elections, in the development of local and national policies, is actively involved in community and charity activities. The second group constitutes 86% of respondents and is characterized by a low level of activism. They get little or no involvement in electoral, community, and charity activities. As per the demographic characteristics, people with a high level of civic activism are mostly women, from the countryside, the Central and Southern areas, aged between 30-49 years, with higher education, and employed predominantly in the public sector. As a result of the analysis of both groups, we determined that the group of respondents with a high level of civic activism is also characterized by a higher social capital than the other group. Thus, in the group of respondents with high civic activism, is much higher the share of party members and NGO members, the share of respondents who trust the local and central public authorities, and the share of respondents active politically and at the community level.
