Rezumat

Introduction: The most common salivary locations outside of mumps infection are mumps orchitis and mumps pancreatitis. Aim of this study was to analyze epidemiological characteristics of patients with mumps orchitis and pancreatitis. Material and methods: We studied 62 patients with mumps orchitisand 75 patients with mumps pancreatitis,who were hospitalized in the Clinic of Infectious Diseases at University Hospital, Pleven (20002008). Results: During that period in the Clinic of Infectious Diseases 161 patients with mumps were hospitalized. Involvement of the pancreas is the leading extra salivary manifestation. Mumps and pancreatitis were established in 36% of them; men were 71% (t = 4,468; p<0,001).During the period 2000-2008 orchitis was diagnosed in 62 (38%) of hospitalized males with mumps infection.Patients with orchitis ranged in age from6 to38,average19 years old.Prevalentillnesses ingroups. The mostaffectedage group with pancreatitis are persons17 to20 years old.Hospitalizedare mainlystudents -33(44%). Conclusion Mumpsand its frequent location soutsidesalivaryaffectyoung people. Can lead toserious complications.The only meansto protectthe populationroutineimmunizationwith a live vaccine.
