The study brings back into discussion the complex theme of the image of the Romanian man in the Middle Ages, one built over time by foreign travelers who passed through the Romanian space. Despite a dose of subjectivism, prejudice or resentment, the testimonies of strangers are valuable from the perspective of knowing the structures of the imaginary and gender relations, where the testimonies of strangers bring additional information to internal sources, which makes it possible to reconstruct aspects that concern the daily life of Romanian men, the attitudes and behaviors of men in relation to their peers, women or foreigners, etc. The main point of reference of this type of source is the tension between the way Romanian men are seen by foreigners, the virtues and vices that are attributed to them in certain contexts of observation of occupations and associated with social statuses.
