The Black Sea level variations in the last glacial-interglacial transition period seem to be the most relevant for understanding the speed and the nature of the global warming. Paleoclimatic data indicate that neither the temperature, nor the rainfall have steadily increased. Moreover, amidst the raising level of the Black Sea, after 14 thousands years, within a period of 11.000-10.000 years, there is registered a period of cooling and therefore, of regression of the sea. The low coastal region and the continental shelf of the Black Sea comprise a true archive of paleogeographic "footprints", on the basis of which, both the sea changes and the vertical land movement can be restored. Dynamic sea level and ice-eustatic changes, are however, those two climatic variables which have the biggest impact towards the continental shelf, coastline and coastal regions of the Black Sea. |
