By its essence, democracy is a rather complex and multilateral phenomenon. This fact determines its different definitions and interpretations. In specialized literature, democracy is treated as a notion that refers to: the political order and the functioning of the political system, in which the right of the people to govern themselves is realized; a political regime, in which the sovereignty of the people, the freedom and equality of the citizens, enshrined in law, are recognized and put into practice; a system of self-administration with the involvement of citizens in the adoption of decisions of general interest. |
