The article focuses on the defining the delayed gratification which according to the Encyclopedia of psychology is considered as a key feature. And as Daniel Gilman says, this feature is an important component of the emotional intelligence. Lacking this feature people seek for immediate satisfaction continuously and consequently may suffer from low self-control. Proof of the given phenomenon was brought by the well-known experiment of Marshmallow, related by Walter Michel, lecturer and researcher at Stanford University. It showed that children with ability to wait were more adaptable and responsible than their peers who were unable to resist and succeed in life. It also clarifies that the child can be taught at an early age to develop the feature of delay gratification, as well as what techniques should be taken to postpone gratification. |
