The article deals with various aspects of the role and functions of euphemisms in current language usage. It also specifies that language functions are presented as attributes of a whole, while the functions of euphemisms are regarded as attributes of a microsystem, that is, of a restricted system of signs within the framework of the system. Undoubtedly, the number of functions of euphemisms differs from one author to another, and one and the same euphemism may perform different functions in different situations, or it may encompass more functions. The article deliniates the mechanisms for euphemistic expression, as well as the effects of this expression. |
