Rezumat

Issues concerning the genesis, definition, connotation analysis etc. of such a complex concept as “the Self” involves an interdisciplinary theoretical fusion. Philosophy, the first source-discipline, itemizes the two folded origin of the notion: the Old Indian equivalent notion Ɩtman and the Antique Socratic idea of the self (maieutic modality) as an interior moral reflection. The term, introduced in psychology by Georg Groddeck, and the theory, instituted by Freud, will develop into a new kind of psychology – the metapsychology, inaugurated by Jung. This profound Jungian psychology treats justly the subject matter and gives the possibility to other fields, like the literary one and others, to make adequate use of the concept.
