Adaptogens are known as stress-protective remedies. A low level of toxicity and various chemical composition makes medicinal plants important sources of adaptogenic compounds. The mechanism of their action is executed throught the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (HPA) or sympathoadrenal system (SAS), and involves several cell’s functional components, such as molecular chaperones. The normal paradigm: “one drug for one disease” is not appropriate for adaptogens, which have numerous pharmacological effects. All these activities are associated with the stimulation of central nervous system (CNS), immune and endocrine systems. Many researches registered positive dynamics in the treatment combined with herbal adaptogens. Hence several are successfully used in clinic as stimulants and adjuvants: Rhodiola rosea, Schisandra chinensis, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Withania somnifera, Panax ginseng etc. |
