Rezumat

The paper aims, in the context of the knowledge society, to present the necessity of building the vocational identity of adolescents, as a main reference both in the school adaptation and in the design of the educational and, subsequently, the professional path. Scientific and empirical research lead us to the idea that the development of vocational identity is a complex process, based on a set of educational, instructional, counseling, orientation and personal development activities, especially in adolescence. The analysis of the literature (M. Savickas, M. Kidd, R. Van Esbroeck, B. C. Buis, R. W. Lent, S. D. Brown, A. Hirschi) allows us to establish that for the success of career counseling / vocational education we need to know the common issues, the history of the evolution of the theoretical approaches, the principles and modalities of integration in the great psychological currents and those of the education sciences. In conclusion, vocation has a special role in the personal development, but it is the merit of vocational education in training the individual resources of adolescents and their constructive use.
