The study that we bring to your attention aims to continue a larger research of the process of the (re)sovietisation of Bessarabia from the perspective of the soviet “secret police” NKGB-MGB, during first postwar years. In the present study, the author will focus on analyzing the institutional structure of the NKGB-MGB of the Moldavian SSR in the period 1944-1946. Therefore, this work will contribute to understand whether the People’s Commissariat for National Security (NKGB) - Ministry of National Security (MGB) of the Moldavian SSR was an authentic institution designed to defend and protect the interests of the majority of Bessarabia’ population or it was just a smaller appendix, an integral part of the institutional security apparatus of the USSR, whose priority task was the sovietisation of the newly acquired territory. This study is mainly based on unpublished documents from the administrative fund of the archive of the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova (ASISRM), published documents and other historiographical sources. |
