Introduction: Liposarcoma is a rare malignant tumor, originating from adipose tissue. Retroperitoneal liposarcoma has an estimated incidence rate of 0.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. Case report: Man, 50 years old, hospitalized with complaints of abdominal enlargement, weight loss for about 1 year. The CT examination of the abdomen revealed a giant, multinodular tumor, with a predominantly fatty structure and a solid component, measuring 365x235x412mm, which displaced the left kidney in the medial direction, and the loops of the intestine - towards the right flank. Median laparotomy was performed with the identification of a giant, multinodular retroperitoneal tumor, which displaces the descending colon - anteriorly, the left kidney with the renal vessels and the ureter - to the right; the upper pole of the tumor detected at the level of the diaphragm, and the lower pole - in the pelvis. The ablation of the retroperitoneal tumor was performed with segmental resection of the sigmoid and application of the primary end-to-end anastamosis. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination: welldifferentiated liposarcoma G1, with infiltration of the sigmoid colon; immunophenotype: S100+; CD4+; MDM2+. Postoperative course - after 9 months - recurrence of the tumor in the left iliac fossa occurred, with intimate adhesion to the descending colon. Surgical procedure - total excision of the tumor. The histopathological result – well-differentiated G1 liposarcoma, similar to the previous operative material. Conclusion: Giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma is a rare tumor, and early detection and ablation of the tumor has a more favorable prognosis, with better long-term results and a lower recurrence rate. |
