Gallbladder torsion (GT) is an unusual and rarely reported clinical entity. It was first described by Wendel in 1898. Since then the literature on it has been confined to a few case reports and very small cases series, in totally about 500 cases being published. Because lack of pathognomonic sign, rarety of the pathology preoperative diagnosis of gallbladder torsion is difficult. However, imagistic methods may be useful in GT detection and play a large and important role in differential diagnosis. Cholecystectomy (either laparoscopic approach or open one) is considered the optimal treatment option.
