Rezumat

About 2 km to the east of the village Dolna Kabda, on the top of hill, are the ruins of one impressive Early Byzantine fortress. In the first 3 years of the 1960s, D. Ovcharov conducted excavations, researching the defensive system and stratigraphy. According to the stratigraphic observations, the specific features of the fortification system and the discovered materials, the for tress is dated in the end of 5th - the beginning of 6th century. It is burnt down and abandoned in the end of the 6th century. A representative sample of finds kept in the patrimony of Targovishte Regional Museum of History consists of clay lamps, ceramic vessels, fibulae and little bronze distaffs. All of the materials refer to the 6th century. The single coin finds are very few. The earliest of them belong to issues of Septimius Severus and Plautilla. Next three coins are minted in the reign of emperors Diocletian, Arcadius or Honorius and Justinianus I. The latest coin is of Justin II and mark the final of the life in the fortress. In 1962 inside the so-called building № 2 was found a roman coin hoard. Its first announce was made by T. Gerasimov two years later, who recognized 63 coins, but up to now it remained unpublished entirely. The hoard consists of 191 silver coins, including denarii and antoniniani. The earliest coin is an issue of Antoninus Pius and the latest one belongs to the mint of Phillip the Arab and his family. Two coins of Carus and Justin/ Justinianus I added later to the hoard. From the territory of Bulgaria are well known 175 hoards ending with coins of Philip the Arab, but only 32 of them are published. In North Bulgaria are found 86 and 89 are from the region to the south of Balkan Mountains. The hoards that consist only of silver coins are 107, mixed are 24 and the composed by bronze provincial coins are 44. The latest coins from Dolna Kabda are struck in the period 246-248. Probably the time of hiding or losing is during the invasion of goths in 250-251 AD in the reign of Trajan Decius. The coin hoard from Dolna Kabda had a unique history – it was firstly found in the 6th century, about three centuries later after it was buried, then it was lost again in the end of 6th century to be discovered again in 1962.
