Rezumat

Considering the growing interest in idiomatic language in the Spanish class for Romanian-speaking students, we have decided to elaborate significant materials for intermediate level learners (B1 and B2 – according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment). After a process of deep analysis and reflection, we select the semantic field of the human body, considered to be a linguistic universal, representing a common experience shared by every individual. We focused exclusively on somatic verbal expressions (due to the power a verb provides to the structure) and we have created a lexicon by examining monolingual and bilingual dictionaries and many other phraseological repertoires. In this study we analyze from a contrastive perspective these phraseological units that contain the word “head”, which generates a high number of set expressions. In this article we defend their inclusion in the corpus applying diverse criteria such as syntactic contour, degree of transparency or equivalence. Some of them share the same meaning and form (total equivalence), other are partially similar and there are also expressions completely different. We thoroughly analyze each case in order to decide if they are relevant and adequate for our students. We also focus on the communicative functions, since our endeavor has a fundamentally practical purpose and we consider the learner a social agent involved in verbal successful interactions
