Rezumat

The Chalcolitic culture of Varna – the first civilization in the world, is a complex phenomenon with lots of dimensions and the golden Varna Necropolis occupies just its peak. Researches reveal newer and newer phenomena – and the subsidiary culture of Bolgrad is one of the least known ones. Situated to the north of the Danube, on the territory of South Moldova and South Bessarabia, it is considered to be a product of the culture of Varna. The article offers the hypothesis of the culture of Bolgrad as an intermediate point in the maritime trade on the long way from Varna toward the Azov and Caspian seas, evidence of which are the repositories of copper products in the villages of Karbuna and Habasheshti, and in the necropolis near Mariupol and Hvalinsk, as well as the pictures of ithyphallic figures on the rocks of the Caspian Sea and from the Trusheshti site in Moldova
