The study, planed in bilateral project Improving surface water quality assessment methods by semiquantitative and multielemental spectrometric methods, proposes the development and adjustment of a new semiquantitative method for surface water analysis, a method that can be further applied in environmental laboratories for cost reduction and thus ensuring efficiency improvement of research institutes and laboratories. Semiquantitative analysis performed with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer offers complete information about the sample, from a heavy metal perspective, within a short analysis time and without the need to cover the whole mass spectrum with calibration solution. Complementary analysis (ICP-AES and AAS) will validate the results obtained by semiquantitative ICP-MS analysis and will improve the calibration technique, but also will contribute to the development of a new, efficient and less costly method. Water samples from rivers will be used as case studies: Somes (Romania), Bîc (Republica Moldova) and Prut (Romanian-Moldova border) by both teams involved. Collaboration between research teams of INCDO INOE 2000 ICIA Cluj-Napoca, The University of Academy of Sciences of Moldova and The Institute of Chemisty of Academy of Sciences of Moldova will improve the performances of the analytical techniques used for environment analysis in both Moldavian and Romanian team. It will also enable the development of human resources through training of young researchers in the field of analytical chemistry and modern spectrometric analytical techniques. |
