Novel x-ray laser resources allow for resonant coupling with highly charged ions and nuclei of relevance e.g. for understanding x-ray physical spectra and dreaming of nuclear batteries. We start this talk by investigating how the interaction of free electron lasers with ions can help understanding astrophysical spectra and how nuclear excitation may be significantly enhanced by electron capture processes. As main part the question will be addressed how the naturally weak coupling of free electron laser light with nuclei could be significantly enhanced by moving the nuclei rapidly in a well controlled way. Finally also issues of spontaneous emission control will be addressed which are especially relevant for x-ray transitions. |
