Rezumat

In the given article the author analyzes the export of Salt from the Principality of Moldova in the Russian Empire at the end of the XVIIIth – early XIXth century. The Salt played an important role in the trade between the Principality of Moldova and the Russian Empire. The Salt represented an important resource for the Principality of Moldova and a strategical export good. The shortage of salt in the Russian market was caused by natural disasters which have caused smaller amounts of salt extracted from salt lakes of the Crimea and the continental blockade. The Salt was exported over Nistru through the customs offices from Movilău, Isakoveț, Dubăsari and Criuleni. As a result of the prohibition of trade with the Ottoman Empire and the Austrian possessions, the Russian Empire became the main outlet for the salt from Moldova. In conclusion, we can mention that the amount of the Moldavian export of salt to the Russian Empire varied, along the time, depending on the general conditions of the process of production and on the special circumstances that were observed during the process of sale. An decisive role plaid the cyclical fluctuations that became evident during the Russo-Turkish war from 1806-1812, when the exports of Romanian salt to the Ottoman Empire were seriously affected because of the actions undertaken by the tsarist administration.
