В статье рассматривается вклад известного исследователя юга России XIX в. Аполлона Александровича Скальковского, оставившего яркий след в деле изучения истории новороссийских земель и Бессарабии периода царской России. Историографический анализ трудов ученого представляет собой широкий спектр его наработок не только в области исторического наследия, но и в демографии, статистике, а также в зарождающейся этнографической науке, для которой земли южной России представляли особый интерес с точки зрения официальной историографии того времени.

Articolul ia în discuție contribuția cunoscutului cercetător al sudului Rusiei din secolul al XIX-lea Apollo Alexandrovici Skalkovsky (1808–1898), care a lăsat o urmă luminoasă în cercetarea teritoriilor sudice și Basarabiei din timpul Rusiei țariste. Analiza istoriografică a lucrărilor autorului propune un spațiu larg de investigații, nu numai în domeniul patrimoniului istoric, dar, de asemenea, în demografie, statistică, precum și în etnografie, aflată în curs de dezvoltare, pentru care terenurile din sudul Rusiei prezintă un interes deosebit în cercetarea istoriografiei oficiale a timpului.

The article deals with the contribution of Apollon Skalkovsky (1808–1898), the outstanding researcher of Southern Russia in the XIXth century, to historical studies of Novorossiya and Bessarabia in trarist Russia. Historiographical analysis of this scholar’s works represents groundwork in the field of historical heritage as well as demography, statistics and ethnography, a scientific direction that was making its first steps, the area of Southern Russia being of peculiar interest from the point of view of the official historiography.
