Eliade’s fantastic prose marks the itinerary of the search of oneself. The protagonists find themselves bound by their own unconscious desires to search in themselves the existential meaning. During the course of actions, male characters are seeking refuge from the tensions of historical profane time, and descend into feelings, into ‘primary’ inner states. And because the sacred mystery will not ever be revealed to a skeptical rationalist, Mircea Eliade introduces „individuals” within a literary topic, where the real goes slightly into unreal, fantastic, imaginary, dreamlike, mystical or magic. In the indistinct and timeless dark, the logical involvement triggers characters’ fear and panic, therefore Self explorers must rely on their lover's intuition, the archetypal image of anima. But before living the moment of bliss, men go through a purifying act – the love, where it’s canceled forever the social self, the individuality, and then led by his sidereal spirit they will be „swallowed” by Univers. |
