Rezumat

Oral and dental diseases are a major public health problem due to their high prevalence and their impact ongeneral health.The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of oral health impact on quality of life in schoolchildren. A case control study of schoolchildrenwas conducted between 2017 and 2018 at the Moldova State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “NicolaeTestemitanu”, Faculty of Dental Medicine.The sample included 216 children aged 12 -15, who were clinically examined: 107 children (49.54%) from urban areas (L1) and 109 (50.46%) from the countryside (L0). Clinical data were collected according to World Health Organization’s criteria, and using the Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP) questionnaire.The study was conducted in compliance with ethical requirements, obtaining the written consent of children's parents or legal custodians. Epi Info software was used for descriptive and inferential analysis. The prevalence of oral impacts on daily performances ranged between children in urbanand rural areas (42.99% 56.88%). The highest prevalence being recorded in children from rural areas (62ch.ildren– 56.88%). Eating difficulty was a common impact in all groups of children, varying from 18 children (16.82%) in urban areas up to 36 children (33.03%) in rural areas (p<0.001). The main oral causes having an impact on daily life were: dental caries in 53 children (48.62%) and dental pain – in 44 (40.37%) childrenfrom rural areas. The impact of extracted teeth on social contacts and aesthetic function was found in 28 children (25.69%) in rural areas.
