Psychology has explored the complicated topic of self-confidence from a number of theoretical perspectives. According to Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, for instance, verbal persuasion, emotional stimulation, and personal success experiences all contribute to the development of self-confidence. This theory focuses on the outside elements that affect self-confidence. Another significant idea is Weiner’s Causal Attribution idea, which examines how individuals ascribe success and failure to their own actions. People with more self-confidence ascribe their success to internal factors like personal ability, whereas those with lower self-confidence blame internal factors for their failure. According to Festinger’s Social Comparison Theory, people build their self-confidence by evaluating how they compare to others. People with higher self-confidence are those who compare themselves to others and see that they are performing better than most of them, while those with lower self-confidence are those who do the opposite and see that they are performing worse than most of them. These theories all offer distinctive viewpoints on the growth of self-confidence. Self-confidence is a complex construct that is impacted by a range of internal and external circumstances, and it is crucial to recognize this in therapeutic practice. |
