The purchase of goods or the contracting of works or services by one or more public authorities from selected economic operators is referred to as public procurement. They are vitally important for ensuring the normal functioning of public mechanisms, but they are also of great importance for the country’s economy. In order to prepare this work, the views of different experts from several countries, as well as the official legal and statistical databases, were researched. In international financial practice, methodologies for determining the sustainability of public finances have been developed, which are applicable for determining the sustainability of public procurement. In essence, it is the methodology intended to determine the capacity of the public administration in the country to honor the financial commitments assumed by contracting the purchases of goods, work, and services. The application of the given methodology allowed the development of certain conclusions regarding the sustainability of public procurement in the Republic of Moldova. In the short term, this can be seen as normal. But in the conditions of the current economic and financial crisis, the long-term prospects remain uncertain. Also, as a threat to the sustainability of public procurement in the Republic of Moldova, the high level of corruption remains, which requires the continuation of activities to maintain the transparency of public procurement and those related to the prevention of corruption. |
