Introduction: Pain is a frequently overlooked issue in stroke rehabilitation, despite its significant impact on patient outcomes and quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the frequency, nature, and regional distribution of pain experienced by individuals undergoing stroke rehabilitation, with a specific focus on acute and chronic pain. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted involving 270 stroke patients. Pain presence and type were assessed using medical records obtained from the Rehabilitation Unit of the Ministry of Health Hospital, Republic of Moldova. Descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages, were utilized for data analysis. Additionally, the number of painful sites was reported based on responses from the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Results: Among the participants, 59.3% reported experiencing pain during their rehabilitation, while 40.7% reported no pain. Among those experiencing pain, 42.2% had chronic pain, 18.1% had acute pain, and 39.6% reported no pain at the time of the study. Individuals who reported pain exhibited variability in the extent of pain, ranging from 1-8 affected regions. The average number of affected regions was 2.6, with a standard deviation of 1.4. Conclusion: Chronic pain emerged as the most prevalent form of pain experienced during stroke rehabilitation. These findings emphasize the importance of enhancing pain assessment practices and implementing targeted pain management strategies within rehabilitation programs. Further research is needed to optimize pain management approaches and improve patient outcomes in stroke rehabilitation settings. |
