Rezumat

New iron(III) carboxylates on the basis of the fatty acids C5H11COOH, C7H15COOH, C8H17COOH, and C9H19COOH are synthesized. The compounds are investigated by the methods of IR and Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetochemistry and thermogravimetry. The results obtained confirm the μ3-oxo trinuclear structure of the compounds with antiferromagnetic interaction between the high-spin Fe3+ ions. The substances are soluble in acetone, ether, chloroform, benzene and some other solvents; they are insoluble in water, hexane, heptane, and acetonitrile. The compounds are thermally stable to 60-80°C and totally decompose within the range 360-450°C. The chain length of the fatty acid anion does not noticeably influence the properties studied.
