Rezumat

The research was carried out during 2019-2021 in diverse locations in Arad County, Romania, with the objective of identifying and studying some valuable local varieties and biotypes in order to highlight their biological and technological characteristics, which, despite having qualities good both in terms of quantity and quality of production, are unknown and have not been expanded in viticultural practice. The research topic was and continues to be an object of study, with the research in this context remaining open because these varieties must be known, protected, and preserved as part of each country's viticultural tradition. The sampling was done by travelling to various locations. The identified local varieties were labelled using names used by the residents, the name of the location where they were discovered, the name of the family to which the vines belonged, or the name of the street on which the household was discovered. After sample collection and analysis of the information on physicochemical and technological properties, 30 local varieties of particular interest were chosen and classified according to technological characteristics as follows: eight local varieties had properties specific to grape varieties suitable for fresh consumption, six showed mixed qualities, and sixteen had properties specific to grape varieties suitable for wine production. To obtain relevant results and conclusions, all local varieties chosen for the study were compared to control varieties, which were: Cabernet Sauvignon for the evaluation of regional varieties suitable for producing red wines; Feteasca Regala for the evaluation of local varieties suitable for producing white wines; and Chasselas for the evaluation of both local table grape varieties and local mixed grape varieties.
