With the emergence of Sufism, there have been some debates between faqihs and Sufis for centuries. Although the basis of both sides is the Qur'an and the Sunnah, the starting point of the discussions is mostly the way worship is performed. One of these controversial issues is the semâ and whirling, one of the main rituals of the Sufi rites. This intellectual divergence, which initially took place through the fatwas of the sheikhulislams and the treatises written by each side in order to provide evidence to support their own arguments, evolved into a mass and sometimes physical attack in the second half of the seventeenth century with the incitement and incitement of the Qadizadelis. The closeness of Vani Mehmet Efendi, the pioneer of the Qadızade movement in this period and also the sheikh of the sultan, to Mehmet IV enabled him to gain political tolerance. Eventually, under the influence of Vani Efendi, who pointed out that sema was forbidden in his treatises, the eighteen-year (1077-1095 H. / 1666-1684 G.) ban on sema began with the order of Sultan Mehmet IV and the fatwa of Shaykhulislam Minkarizade Yahya Efendi. Sufi poets have written about this restriction, which has been passed down in history as a bad prohibition, and the subsequent re-release of the sema. |
