This work aims to present a new translation from French to Romanian of Arthur Rimbaud’s second, bigger, so-called “Letter of the Seer” (1871). The poetry within the letter is outside of the scope of this translation, as from the translator’s point of view, the concepts described in the letter have relevance far beyond 19th century French poetry and poetry in general. In my opinion, Rimbaud goes much further than that when he introduces and astutely develops the concept of the artist as a seer who can be another even to themselves. This, as emphasized in the letter via the brief, grammatically incorrect, yet deeply meaningful formulation of “je est un autre”. The longerterm aspiration of this translation is to drive additional interest within the Romanian-speaking world to Rimbaud’s correspondence and further the need for a complete translation of his works into Romanian.
