In the XVIIIth century the beginning of the XIXth century, in Moldova, as in Wallachia, the dowry sheet was drawn up by the parents before the marriage of the young people, in accordance with the economic and financial situation and the possibility of the family, especially the girl, being an indispensable condition for concluding the marriage. An item in the dowry inventory was the kit, which included personal items (clothes and jewelry) and things for the future household (crockery and utensils, bedding, towels, tablecloths, carpets, but also furniture), because the woman was responsible for bringing into the husband's house the things noted above. The communication will present local traditions and customs, external influences and their place in everyday life in Moldova, reflected in the dowry sheet. The things listed in the dowry sheets are indispensable sources for elucidating the daily life of the boyar families, but they also emphasize the observance of local traditions and customs preserved in the prenuptial traditions and endowment of girls. At the same time, the dowry sheets are an indicator of taking over some customs from abroad, especially the Turkish ones, and their place in the daily life of Moldova, but also an indication of linguistic influence, the dowry sheet being a real pearl in this sense. |
