Rezumat | ||||||
Defeated in the war against the „Holy League”, the Ottomans tried to revive economic and military power of the state through the implementation of European-style reforms. For this purpose a group of reformers was created. It included two Christians: Alexandru Mavrocordat and Dimitrie Cantemir. However, because of political and international instability, these reformist initiatives have not been introduced in the Ottoman Empire. By the middle of the eighteenth century, Constantin, Alexandru Mavrocordat’s nephew, managed to elaborate and implement a series of reforms aimed at modernization in Moldova and Wallachia, unique for South-Eastern Europe, dominated by the Ottomans |
