Rezumat

The priest, teacher and writer G. Vasile Popa can be considered the last great Romanian folklorist, a brilliant continuer of the folklore gatherers such as Artur Gorovei, I. G. Sbierea, Elena Sevastos, S. FI. Marian and others. Unsurpassed expert of popular traditions, Vasile Gheorghe Popa was a personality of the cultivated literature, marked by a tragic destiny which didn’t allow him to show the best of his talent. But nevertheless he left important creations, the most remarkable are the epistolary novel „The grandmother”, fi nished in 1973 and published posthumously at the publishing house Junimea, after 35 years, due to the help of Cezar Ivănescu. It is worth remembering that the two volumes of memoires, published in 2003 at the publishing house of the Cultural Centre „Dunărea de jos” from Gala#i, entitled „From childhood”, a reference work to the image of the Moldovan village during the years that followed World War One, Discussions with Vasile Lovinescu, the masterpiece The folklore of the Upper Country and many other works.
