Etymology, as a branch of lexicology, deals with the study of the origin of words. Starting with the second half of the 19th century, with the application of the comparative-historical method, essential for etymology research, this field benefited from more rigor. When there are no texts attesting to forms and words, the so-called reconstruction is resorted to. Etymology is the science that indicates to us, which peoples came into contact with the Romanian people over the centuries, what influences the Romanian language has suffered from other languages and vice versa. |
