Rezumat

Communication is one of those terms that it is so inbuilt in our evolutionary process and daily lives that it is often difficult to define. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it as: “a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behaviors”. What makes this process effective, especially when this occurs in a different language than ours? “Effective” would be the case when we are understood, when our message is correctly delivered and received by the person whom we are talking to. There are different barriers that can hinder the communication to be effective. The barriers could be the sender’s fault, the receiver’s fault or because of an unsuitable environment. This article talks about some of the barriers that impede the sender, a non-native English speaker, to effectively deliver a message in an English native speakers’ environment.
