The question of the Southern Bessarabia after the end of the Crimean war has become a European one. The time press paid attention to this issue, which divided the Great Powers. Surprisingly, the French government has supported Russia in his attempt to keep Southern Bessarabia, and Great Britain most powerful opponent of Russia. British newspapers criticized Russia's attitude towards this question, mostly „The Times” and „Morning Post”. The press of the time has approached the most important moments in the evolution of the questions of Southern Bessarabia, at the end of 1855 when Russia was notified that it had to give up this territory, until this problem had been resolved at the Paris conference in 1857. In general terms the press adopted hostile attitude to Russia, who are tried not to comply with the Paris treaty of 30 march 1856. |
