Rezumat

Bread accompanies human from birth to death, in all the ritual processes related to crucial moments of his life. It is essential in all human rites of passage: birth, baptism/christening , wedding, burial/funeral. In the localities of southern Bessarabia, the tradition of baking homemade bread is preserved. Some families, return to not practiced techniques , but kept in the memory of women. Taking into account the results of our field research, we conclude that the main holidays and family customs in the Romanians life in the localities of southern Bessarabia are accompanied by special products, prepared from dough. They had and still have well-defined ritual roles, depending on the general significance of the holiday or its certain characteristics. It is important to note that the communication and mediation role of bread remains current to this day. Documenting traditions is a step towards preserving and promoting them, including by carrying out applicable cultural-scientific projects
