The article describes preliminary results of rescue archaeological excavations carried out in 2013 on the Precucuteni site Rogojeni I (Rogojeni Commune, Şoldăneşti County). The surface of excavations (Section 2) attained the area of 180 sq.m. During the excavations, six archaeological sites are fully or partially investigated: one dwelling, one hut and four ground pits. Remains of the dwelling in the northern part of the excavation 2 overlapped the pit 3. This suggests the presence of, at least in this part of the settlement, two building horizons that allow the possibility to describe in future two chronological levels on the settlement. The relatively long period of human presence on this site may be indicated by the large area of the archaeological monument, as well as by the presence of Precucuteni pottery from the section 2 with signs of later period than the one that was reported earlier from the huts 1 and 2 of this site by V. Marchevici (excavations of the fi eld season 1972). Besides the dwellings and the huts, the settlement also included temporary constructions of household purposes. Such a temporary household construction (or constructions) is found near the southern side of the partially excavated hut and the dwelling. Its presence is indicated by indirect evidences, such as the accumulations of cultural remains with fragments of grain grinders, the remains of crushed vessels, the fragmented tools made of fl int, stone and horns, as well as the accumulations of animal bones. |
