The Paris Peace Conference recognized, by virtue of the principle of nationalities and the right of peoples to self-determination, the Romanian unionist acts accomplished in 1918. Ion Pelivan, as authorized delegate of Bessarabia at the Peace Conference, during his stay in Paris intensely promoted the marks of identity legitimation of the Romanians in Bessarabia. The mother tongue, as the main mark of identity legitimacy, in alliance with customs and habits, imprints the character, nature, genius, individuality on the nation, makes it stronger against the vicissitudes of destiny, enriches its physical and moral existence. In addition, the dual role that the mother tongue must play for all people - that of promoting all sciences and culture and that of an object of culture - has been fully realized by the leaders of the movement for national change. The historical retrospective thus demonstrates the indisputable role of the promoters of national values for the maintenance of the national existence of the Romanians of Bessarabia.
